Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating a BetweenUs account or using the app, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use BetweenUs. By using the service you confirm you meet this requirement.

3. The service

BetweenUs is a private journaling and self-reflection companion. You write entries, and the app uses AI to reflect patterns back to you. Optional features include the Lake (anonymous community posts), healing exercises, and Bridge (opt-in partner pairing).

4. Health disclaimer

BetweenUs is a journaling and self-reflection companion. It is not a medical device, does not provide diagnosis or treatment, and is not a substitute for professional mental-health care.

If you are in crisis or need clinical support, please contact a licensed mental-health professional or one of the resources on our support page.

5. Account registration & security

You’re responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Let us know promptly if you notice unauthorized activity on your account.

6. Subscriptions & billing

Free tier

Without a subscription you get, per day:

• 3 full AI reflections (partial reflections continue after the cap)
• 1 Lake post
• 1 healing exercise

Journal entries themselves are unlimited on the free tier. Bridge mode and full insights are premium features.

Premium

Premium is $12.99 / month (com.betweenus.premium.monthly) or $79.99 / year (com.betweenus.premium.yearly). The entitlement is identified as “Between Us Pro”. Premium unlocks unlimited reflections and exercises, Bridge mode, unlimited Lake posts, and the full Insights dashboard. There is no free trial.

Billing through Apple

All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled. Apple’s standard grace period applies if a renewal fails.

To cancel, go to your Apple ID settings. Deleting the BetweenUs app or your BetweenUs account does not cancel your subscription — Apple must cancel it on their side. Please cancel in your Apple ID settings before deleting your account to avoid continued billing.

7. Acceptable use

In the Lake (community) and Bridge (partner) features, please be kind. No harassment, no targeted abuse, no sharing of personally-identifying information about others, no content that encourages self-harm. We may remove content and terminate accounts that violate these principles.

8. Your content

You own what you write. You grant us a limited license to process your entries (send them to our AI provider, store them in our database, display them back to you) only as needed to run the service for you. We never use your content to train AI models.

When you post to the Lake, you grant us a limited license to display that post anonymously to other BetweenUs users for as long as you leave it published. You can delete your own posts at any time.

9. Intellectual property

The BetweenUs app, website, logo, copy, and original content are our intellectual property. You may not copy or redistribute them without permission.

10. Privacy

How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

11. Termination

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Termination does not refund existing subscription charges — those are handled by Apple under Apple’s refund policy.

12. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

BetweenUs is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the service or your violation of these terms.

14. Dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which BetweenUs is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction in that state, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app with a reasonable notice period before they take effect.
